Best fashion for women of all shapes: Bohemian Traders launches stylish colours and nine sizes for every piece

An Australian brand run by a young couple is making waves on the fashion scene for its inclusive and sustainable approach.

Mum-of-three Emily Berlach founded Bohemian Traders around her family’s kitchen table on the NSW Central Coast in 2014 before her husband David joined the business later that year.

The idea for the free-spirited and size inclusive label was born out of Emily’s changing fashion needs as a busy mother and her “evolving wardrobe requirements” outside of the workforce.

“I needed dresses with a little more length, T-shirts with a bit of swing and plenty of stripes… because obviously!” Emily tells Best Picks.

“Everything was wash-and-wear, durable, and practical. Of course, the brand has come a long way since 2014 but natural, sustainable fibres still form the basis of our current collections.”

In its first year of production Bohemian Traders sold over 9,000 products and has since grown, on average, at around 30 per cent year-on-year.

It’s well-known for its unique artist collaborations, in-house Australian designed prints and ability to purchase nine sizes in every style.

“From the outset, the Bohemian Traders’ ethos has always been to translate fashion-forward trends into everyday wearable pieces, designed to make women look good at every size and stage,” Emily says.

“We’ve always been proud to offer beautiful prints/fabrications.

“All our prints are now custom-designed in house and embody the Australian aesthetic, with a focus on size inclusivity – we truly believe that beauty doesn’t have a size tag and clothes should make us feel good.”

The brand is colourful by nature with a multitude of floaty dresses, long, ombre printed shirts and flared trousers with an unmatchable denim collection.

This year, the crochet collection was one of the best-selling as well as the Halter Tie Midi Dress in Plum which “is flying out the door”.

“BT Denim is having a real moment right now with our Denim Oversized Shirt and Classic Flare being a firm favourite,” Emily confirms.

“Denim is absolutely a wardrobe staple for women globally and our quality and price are right in the pocket.

“I think our customers have come to know us for beautiful pieces that make them feel good.

“We have so many customers contacting us to let us know that whenever they wear Bohemian Traders, they receive compliments, which is so lovely to hear.”

Despite the challenging retail climate, Bohemian Traders has managed to expand into The Iconic and will continue to push into international markets looking for Australian flavour.

“I guess everything is all about possibilities – we’re independent and get to run our own race,” Emily says.

“Our focus is on continuing to build our direct to consumer channel (which is how the brand was started) as well as expand our domestic wholesale (we have around 120 active stockists across Australia).”
