With London Fashion Week celebrating its 40th birthday this year, the British Fashion Council is going all-out to make next month’s event “ignite the imagination, honouring the breadth of creative talent in London” for consumers.
And that means getting them involved to explore the capital’s “renowned shopping destinations through an exciting programme of 500 events and activations” with 180 brands participating”.
It’s an even-higher-profile continuation of the event’s ‘City Wide Celebration’ theme aimed at showcasing “London’s creativity and innovation and highlights fashion at the intersection of culture, with activations”. This time it will include exclusive panel discussions, pop-ups, DJ sets, discounts, designer Q&A sessions, personalised gifts, collection launches and creative workshops.
So which brands are involved? Bulgari (16-20 February) is featuring its latest B.zero1 jewellery collection at its Sloane Street store and includes Champagne and personalised jewellery styling. And LFW lead sponsor 1664 Blanc is hosting ‘1664 Blanc x Selfridges’ with the London store featuring ‘Explorations in Blue’ from 13-27 February. This includes a fashion programme in the store’s Cinema with talks by industry insiders and fashion trailblazers including BFC NEWGEN designers.
Plus Hervia Bazaar (16-18 February) is introducing Hervia x Creative Incubator, “a dynamic initiative nurturing emerging designers in retail”; while Karl Lagerfeld (Regent Street, 17 February) is featuring new season collections along with DJ entertainment, complimentary drinks and personalised sketch illustrations.
The London College of Fashion (Carpenters Road, Stratford, 17 February) has its annual February postgraduate showcase.
Malone Souliers (Mount Street flagship,16-20 February) features shoe engraving with the buyer’s initials on new or existing branded footwear alongside Champange and refreshments with purchase; while Matches Fashion (Carlos Place, 16-19 February) and its fashion brand Raey present an Edit for a four-day pop-up in the attic.
There are other specials from Penhaligon’s, Russell & Bromley, San Carlo, and The Fashion School, including products, gifts and workshops.
Caroline Rush, British Fashion Council CEO, said there will be “a line-up of over 500 consumer-facing events and activations running throughout the week.”
