Following intense rainfall and resultant widespread damage in Chennai and neighboring districts, Bharathidasan University (BDU) has decided to postpone the semester exams for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in its associated colleges.

Chennai Floods: Following intense rainfall and resultant widespread damage in Chennai and neighboring districts, Bharathidasan University (BDU) has decided to postpone the semester exams for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in its associated colleges. Earlier the examination was scheduled to be conducted between December 11 to December 16, 2023. However, a revised datesheet is expected soon. One can download the official notice by visiting the University’s website – https://www.bdu.ac.in/. “As per order of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor in view, term examinations for Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from 11-12-2023 to 16-12-2023 are postponed due to incapacity. The schedule for the above postponed dates will be announced later,” reads the official notice.

In an official announcement, the Controller of Examinations has assured that a revised timetable for the examinations will be promptly released. All colleges affiliated with BDU have been duly informed about the postponement, and proactive measures are being taken to address the disruptions caused by the adverse weather conditions in Chennai.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday announced a cyclone relief package comprising Rs 6,000 cash assistance and increased payout under other categories including enhanced compensation for flood-hit crops. The cash assistance to people, whose livelihoods were affected by the cyclone, would be paid in cash at ration shops (Public Distribution System outlets) in their respective residential neighbourhoods. Seeking relief for the MSME sector, he wrote to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, requesting for a number of sops including provision of overdraft to tide over the losses suffered by them, news agency PTI reported. On December 3 and 4, under the influence of Cyclone ‘Michaung,’ Chennai and nearby areas in Chengelpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts received heavy to very heavy rainfall leading to heavy inundation and damage to properties and loss of lives.
