(NewsNation) — President Joe Biden’s support from women is dwindling, with his lead among the demographic having slid about 8 percentage points since the 2020 election, according to polling data from The New York Times.
Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump’s support among men has bounced back, resembling the double-digit lead he had in 2016, according to the newspaper.
The latest NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ polling found Biden’s approval rating mostly flat month over month. About 42% of voters strongly or somewhat approve of his performance, while about 58% strongly or somewhat disapprove, according to a June NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ poll.
The president’s support is particularly falling among Black and Hispanic women, separate results from a KFF survey suggest. Biden doesn’t have the same support among Black women in Michigan that he did in 2020. His lead with Hispanic women is also down about 12 points, according to The New York Times.
Still, Black women in Michigan are about three times as likely as white women to say a candidate’s political party is a determining factor of how they vote. That means that although Biden’s support among Black women is slipping, he could still win their votes for being the Democratic option, according to KFF findings.
Abortion also remains a key issue for segments of women voters, but they have greater concerns about inflation. Twice as many women said they were in better financial positions under Trump’s leadership, according to KFF.
