Josh Inglis was on fire as the Perth Scorchers escaped defeat against the Melbourne Renegades but a few players may be on the verge of being dropped.
Here are our player ratings.
Josh Inglis 8.5: Struggled for timing early, but exploded into an innings where he would pass 50 from just 33 balls and lift the Scorchers to 3-124 before the Scorchers fell flat. Had a target on the head of World Cup-winning teammate Adam Zampa and blasted three sixes off him.
Andrew Tye 8: Bounced back after struggling against Hobart last week and put a ribbon on the game with two wickets in the final over. His death bowling was on point after going on-pace lots last week and left with 2-21 from four.
Aaron Hardie 7.5: A captain’s performance when they so desperately needed one. He timed his run so well after coming in on the back of a grim start. Targeted the right bowlers and worked to 57 off 41 in a 120-run partnership with Inglis. His one over went for 11, but didn’t get much run in the field as skipper for the first time.
Jhye Richardson 7: He is bowling fast and clearly has confidence in his skill and his body now. His first power-play over was outstanding and his performance in the 19th closed out the night. Jams in a yorker as well as anyone in the competition. Took 1-29 from four.
Jason Behrendorff 7: The big left-armer is surely firming for a World Cup spot next year with another lethal power-play effort. His first over to Quinton de Kock went for just one and was exactly what they needed defending a sub-par score. Finished with 1-23 from four.
Lance Morris 6.5: His first set was the best of his four. Took the massive wicket of de Dock straight up but did get some tap from Marsh when he was flying in the middle overs. Eventually had the WA great caught behind off a slower ball in his 2-35.
Laurie Evans 6.5: Had the unenviable task of stepping into the power-surge where fielders are standing on top of you. Came out swinging, had 22 off just eight, including a second-ball six by the end of the restrictions but fell for 24 off 15 in the collapse.
Nick Hobson 1: Was brought in to replace injured skipper Ashton Turner and but was cramped up on a pull shot and lasted just three balls for his one. Hadn’t batted since last year’s final.
Zak Crawley 1: Excellent last week, but had a fizzer tonight. Got off strike early against Tom Rogers but then tried to hit a length ball down the ground and shoveled it to mid-on for just one.
Cooper Connolly 1: Has been backed in at the top of the order and had little luck so far. This time he was done by a seed from Mujeeb ur Rahmann. He took a neat catch charging in off the rope to dismiss Quinton de Kock but shelled a costly chance off Shaun Marsh and a sloppy throw squandered a late run-out chance.
Ashton Agar 1: Went as part of the collapse, caught in the deep for one where they needed his steady hand and experience down the order. Then was parked into the stands by Marsh as part of his uninspired 0-26 from three. Didn’t use enough of his variations.
