Bull mastiffs taken by rangers after mauling pomeranian to death in Perth family’s backyard

A family has been left devastated after their dog was mauled to death by two bull mastiffs in their own backyard.

Samar Abdullah and her two young daughters were woken to the sounds of their pomeranian Rocco — who they had only owned for two weeks — being attacked.

The two bull mastiffs responsible for the killing, Luna and Hercules, belonged to a backyard breeder in Heathridge and had escaped his place by digging their way under the fence.

“Coming home we have no Rocco anymore so that put so much pressure on me to tell my daughter ‘I’m sorry I couldn’t do anything’,” Ms Abdullah told 7NEWS.

“I gave her a hug and I told her he is gone. Yesterday I couldn’t put her to sleep.”

Two days earlier the dogs cornered another neighbour, Tarryn, in her driveway, forcing her to jump in her car for safety.

“They had spit flying out of their mouth. Barking, growling, biting, banging. It went on like that for two hours,” she said.

Police arrived but couldn’t get out of their car until the dogs walked off.

The owner of Luna and Hercules told 7NEWS he had not expected this to happen but admitted it was not the first time the dogs had killed.

On another occasion, the dogs allegedly escaped and fatally mauled a neighbour’s chihuahua.

Rangers have now collected the dogs and their fate is pending an investigation.
