Authorities have confirmed two homes have been lost in the Keysbrook, North Dandalup bushfire.
DFES incident controller Russell Wells told The West Australian two properties had been confirmed destroyed after the bushfire ripped through 821 hectares of land.
One of the properties is used as an accomodation facility by the Keysbrook Sand Mine. Beds and storing facilities perished at the property but luckily, no one was present.
The second destroyed property – which was also located on the mine site – was an uninhabited home.
At least 75 properties were saved as the firefront burned centimetres from homes in the emergency area.
“The fire is currently contained but not yet controlled, there’s a significant amount of mop up for our crews to do,” Mr Wells said.
“Our main focus at the moment is to try to make the area safe and hopefully get our volunteers and such at home for Christmas.”
It comes as three homes were lost in the Parkerville blaze, which tore through the suburb earlier this week.
Multiple firefighting crews remain at the Keysbrook scene as they work to “consolidate control lines”.
People in parts of Keysbrook, Nambeelup and North Dandalup were told to evacuate yesterday, as the Federal Government’s Boeing 737 large air tanker — which arrived in Perth on Thursday for “the foreseeable future” — was sent to help.
West Australians were warned to expect similar challenging weather conditions from Sunday and into Christmas and Boxing Day.
In Perth on Saturday, the mercury is expected to hit 35C and up to 37C in the Perth Hills. The temperature is tipped to reach 36C on Sunday and 33C on Monday.
Hopeland Road remains closed between Redheads Road and Elliot Road.
