In a video that has gone viral, a TikToker shares the horrible dark and “chilling past” of a popular WA camp spot, often used as an ideal location for school trips and weddings.
With over 50k followers, the content creator known as eeriedana calls herself a “ghost enthusiast” posting videos of “all things spooky, paranormal & true crime”.
The video has reached an audience of 358.5k and focuses on Camp Quaranup located in Albany, one of WA’s beautiful southwest towns.
“These are the ghost stories from our own backyard,” the TikToker began.
Across from the Royal Harbour, the ideal holidaying location’s lesser-known name is Camp Quarantine, alluding to its dark history.
“A place filled with so much sadness, sickness and death, there is no surprise that some trapped souls may still wonder Camp Quaranup to this day,” said eeriedana.
Eeriedana explained in 1875, the location was made a quarantine station in an attempt to stop deadly diseases before they entered into the general population.
She listed diseases and epidemics including smallpox, the bubonic plague, tuberculosis and the Spanish Flu, that were brought to Albany through ships from all over the world.
According to the TikToker, the haunted areas include the old isolation hospital, nurses quarters and morgue.
“People who have stayed here have reported the rotting smell of death and strong chemicals as well as sightings of many full body apparitions including nurses, doctors, soldiers and children,” said eeriedana.
One ghost, in particular, has been terrorising Camp Quaranup campers and eeriedana suggested the ghost man roams the buildings, howling out in pain deep into the night.
Eeriedana said he is considered the camp’s “most known ghost” and was reportedly electrocuted, and buried underneath the floorboards.
The spooky-loving TikToker explained that after the 1930s, the quantine station closed after “an advance in medicine and less immigration”.
