Campolindo 3, Freedom 0
Campolindo, seeded fourth, opened the North Coast Section Division II playoffs on Wednesday with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-20 victory at home over 13th-seeded Freedom.
Setter Rachel Andre handed out 41 assists to lead an attack that got 13 kills from Hanna Bjornson and 10 from Aveya Stone.
Ava Rogers finished with seven kills and Mia Wallach added six.
Lexie Tucker contributed four aces on 14 serve attempts and Gia Okulicz had a big match giving and receiving serves.
Campo will play host to fifth-seeded Carondelet on Saturday.
Carondelet advanced with a 25-11, 25-20, 25-15 victory over 12th-seeded Washington-Fremont.
In other NCS D-II matches, No. 8 seed American swept No. 9 Northgate 25-23, 25-16. 25-19 to set up a second-round match on Saturday at top-seeded Branson.
No. 11 seed Las Lomas pulled off the upset of the night, beating No. 6 seed Ukiah 15-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-23. The Knights will visit No. 3 seed Windsor on Saturday.
In Division IV, No. 4 seed Head-Royce will play host to No. 5 St. Mary’s-Berkeley on Saturday after both won opening-round matches.
Head-Royce beat No. 13 Urban 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 and St. Mary’s outlasted No. 12 Roseland University Prep 21-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-17, 15-4.
No. 5 St. Ignatius 3, No. 7 Valley Christian 1
St. Ignatius, ranked fifth by the Bay Area News Group, got 16 kills and three blocks from Carol Manu and 10 kills from Suraya Newman to power past host Valley Christian 25-23, 25-21,18-25, 27-25 in West Catholic Athletic League play. Jamie Lo added 25 digs and Logan Stern finished with 20 assists for SI. The Wildcats finished third in the league, behind Mitty and St. Francis.

Campolindo 8, Acalanes 5
Sydney Kring saved 14 shots and Ana Pieper scored four goals to help lead visiting Campolindo to a victory on Wednesday night over rival Acalanes to close out the Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division schedule.
Campo also got two goals from London Menard, one goal each from Sammy Frazier and Lily Holloway, four steals from Ainsley Hogan and two drawn ejections from Nikki Frazier.
The Cougars scored three goals in the first quarter to take charge as they finished the regular season 17-6 overall and 4-2 in the division. Acalanes fell to 18-6, 3-3.
Campo coach Kim Everist said her team “did a nice job of neutralizing key players for Acalanes and controlled the game. It was an important win as we head into the playoffs.”
The NCS playoffs start next week.
Miramonte 18, Las Lomas 9
Miramonte clinched first place in the DAL Foothill Division with a victory on the road over Las Lomas. The Mats will head into the NCS playoffs with a 22-2 overall record. They finished league play 5-1, one game ahead of Campolindo. Las Lomas went winless in the powerful Foothill Division but is 14-10 overall. Lily Palma scored five goals on Wednesday to lead Las Lomas. The Knights also got two goals from Sierra Brown, a goal and two assists from Teagan Claus, a goal and an assist from Rachel Eger and two assists each from Avery Bouyea and Makena Dietschy.
Terra Nova 9, Half Moon Bay 8
After finishing its league schedule 14-0, Half Moon Bay fell short in a non-league match against rival Terra Nova to end the regular season. Claire Lowings had three goals and multiple steals to lead HMB. Lily Conaghan added two goals and Josie Nelson, Zoe McAnerney and goalie Phoebe Grant had one goal apiece for HMB. Terra Nova is 10-5.

Miramonte 14, Las Lomas 5
Patrick Stice scored four goals and Grant Kurtz, Griff Tunney and Tristan Tucker each had two as Miramonte finished DAL Foothill Division play undefeated with a victory over Las Lomas. Nick Bea, Jack Behles, Brock Bliss, Oliver Sherwood also scored for the Mats, who captured their second consecutive league title. “The guys played excellent team defense on Las Lomas’ ball-side attack offense tonight,” Miramonte coach John Nash said in an email. “This was a great way to build momentum heading into North Coast Section playoffs next week.”
Hillsdale 14, Burlingame 13
In a Peninsula Athletic League play-in game for CCS, Loyola Marymount-bound Josiah Yeager filled the stat sheet with 10 goals, four steals and three assists to lead Hillsdale to a narrow victory. Yeager had three goals in the fourth quarter. Mathew Love added four goals for the Knights (14-7). For Burlingame, Alex Bozinovic had six goals and Matthew Derossett contributed three.
James Logan 15, Irvington 2
Jacob Campa and Christian Lopez scored two goals apiece, all in the first quarter, as host Logan soared to a 6-0 advantage on its way to a one-sided victory at home in the quarterfinals of the Mission Valley Athletic League tournament. Noah Defaii also scored two goals and Landon Cleveland had three fourth-quarter goals for the Colts, who play host to Washington in the semifinals on Thursday. Last week, the Colts needed triple overtime to turn back Washington to finish the league schedule.
Washington-Fremont 15, Moreau Catholic 9
Radu Costache scored five goals and Jack Lamont added three to help lead Washington past Moreau Catholic in the first round of the MVAL tournament at James Logan. The Huskies also got two goals each from Derek Ponssen and Denton Phillips.

Aragon 21, Woodside 12
Quinn Shirley returned an interception for a touchdown and Maya Yoo scored two TDs and an extra point to lead Aragon to a victory over Woodside. “Quinn Shirley was a defensive machine sacking the quarterback and intercepting for a touchdown,” Aragon coach Barbara Beaumont noted in an email. “Both offense and defense played well! I am happy to report that our entire team was able to play in the game tonight!!” Maya Pappas added two extra points and Yoo also had an interception.
Pioneer 14, Soquel 6
Abbie Mackintosh had a touchdown reception and intercepted two passes and Sara Maccioni caught a TD pass and a two-point conversion as Pioneer defeated Soquel to improve to 11-3-1 on the season. Elizabeth Phinney threw for both TDs and the two-point play. Jessica Tonegato contributed four sacks and 68 yards rushing and Hailey Martinez had an interception and pulled seven flags for Pioneer.
Carlmont 12, Mills 7
Brooke Phimsouthan caught a long touchdown pass from Luna Mengel-Yoshimura to give Mills a 7-6 advantage. But Alessandra Nelson scored a late touchdown and then made a game-clinching interception to lift Carlmont to the victory. “I thought our team played at a championship caliber in total, though we still have many areas to improve on,” Carlmont coach Oscar Cortez III said in an email. “Kudos to the team’s resilient spirit and to Mills’ stout defense.”
