The Canadian wheelchair rugby team lost 44-42 to Japan and 52-51 on Saturday at the Richmond Oval, in Richmond, B.C., dropping to 1-4 at the Wheelchair Rugby Canada Cup.
The first hard-fought contest saw the sides tied at 20 at halftime. Defending champion Japan had a 31-30 lead after the third quarter.
The reigning Paralympic gold medallists Great Britain match-up was levelled both at the break (25-25) and at the start of the final frame (38-38).
Fifth-ranked Canada beat world champions Australia 58-54 to start the tournament in style, but proceeded to lose 53-51 to the top-ranked U.S., and 53-46 to European champions France.
Sunday’s championship games are set for 1 p.m. ET (5th place vs 6th place), 4 p.m. ET (bronze-medal game) and 7 p.m ET (final).
