Emergency services to remain on site for ‘up to two days’
A reporter on the scene has confirmed emergency services are scaling back their presence in Cannock following this morning’s blaze.
According to Josh Giltrap on X, Glynn Luznyj, deputy chief fire officer at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, added the department is expecting to be at the site for “up to two days.”
‘I thought a plane had crashed’
Terry Knowlson, 57, of Cannock, told The Times: “It woke me up this morning – I heard a loud bang and thought a plane had crashed nearby or something.
“The next thing these thick black clouds of ominous-looking smoke were looming over the entire town. It was like something from a film.
“Fire crews were here quick and have been working all morning.
“After all the chaos and commotion of the sirens and the original explosions, there’s been a weird quiet around the place.
“People are just shocked as the scale of it, is just like something we’ve never seen.”
‘No injuries’ as smoke dies down
A reporter on the scene has said no one was injured in today’s Cannock Fire.
Radio journalist Josh Giltrap wrote on X: “Smoke seems to be dying down after a huge fire at Super Smart Services on Cley Road in Cannock.
“SFRS has confirmed that there were no injuries or casualties – and 10 crews are still in attendance fighting the fire.”
Resident heard ‘series of explosions’ as blaze ripped through warehouse
One person reported hearing a “series of explosions” amid the fire in Cannock this morning.
The member of the public claimed the fire was at the “Smart Service warehouse” in Staffordshire on social media.
He said: “It’s the Smart Service warehouse just up the road from Sainsbury’s on Cannock Orbital. Series of explosions before the fire.”
Large force present at blaze
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said this morning: “We’ve currently got lots of firefighters down there alongside other colleagues from West Midlands Fire Service and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service to help bring the fire under control.
“We’re advising the public to avoid the area where possible whilst we work to bring the incident to a safe and swift conclusion.
“If you live nearby and feel you are affected, we recommend closing your windows and doors as a precaution due to heavy amounts of smoke coming from the building.”
