Carolyn Strahan: Missing 82-year-old woman last seen in the Wembley area found in Mirrabooka

A missing elderly woman who ventured 20 kilometres on foot into Perth’s northern suburbs was treated to a cup of tea by a Good Samaritan after she was found on Wednesday.

Concerns were held for Carolyn Strahan’s welfare on Tuesday morning after she went missing from a Wembley home, prompting emergency services to dedicate several resources to help find her.

Local police, air wing, DFES State Emergency Service volunteers and search dogs looked for her last night without luck and responded to an unconfirmed sighting of Ms Strahan in Shenton Park, which expanded the search area.

But on Wednesday morning police announced that she was located safe and well in Mirrabooka after a member of the public spotted her outside a business on Honeywell Boulevard.

“I know that the member of the public that did find her alerted police and gave her a cup of tea, keeping her warm while she was waiting for emergency services inside a business,” Inspector Geoff DeSanges said.

Speaking to media Insp. DeSanges said although the missing woman usually “enjoys a walk,” the distance she managed to cover was “extreme”.

“She’s been medically assessed and she’s in relatively good health and she’s now being returned to the care of her family,” he said.

“We believe at this point that she walked from point A to point B which is a significant distance.”

Police say they are still piecing together the movements of Ms Strahan as she remains in the care of family.

“There’s a lot of effort and endeavor of a personal nature by the emergency services involved,” Inspector DeSanges said.

“There are a lot of people that are greatly relieved that she’d been returned to her family in such good health.”
