CELTIC are reportedly set to turn to Mathias Kvistgaarden again in January as Brendan Rodgers eyes another striker.
The Brondby forward, 21, was linked with the Scottish champions in the summer over a £3million move but he ended up staying in Denmark after the Hoops cooled their interest.
Kvistgaarden was targeted as a backup to main man Kyogo Furuhashi and was seen to be further competition for current No.2 Oh Hyeon-gyu.
But the signing of Luis Palma – who played through the middle several times for previous club Aris – provided cover in the striker position and Rodgers prioritised other areas instead.
However, the manager is expected to be without Kyogo and Oh for a period in the New Year with the pair in line to feature for Japan and South Korea respectively at the Asian Cup.
It leaves the manager with a headache in attack without the star duo so it’s understood he is looking to recruit another forward in January.
Sydney van Hooijdonk has been tipped to follow in his father’s footsteps and leave Bologna for Celtic in January on loan with the Serie A club keen to offload him when the window opens.
But Kvistgaarden has also emerged as a potential option, with TipsBladet claiming the Hoops have reignited their interest in the Danish under-21s star.
Celtic will need to fork out some cash to land the highly-rated player though with the report claiming Brondby will listen to offers of around £9million – almost double the price tag they slapped on him in the summer.
And they face stiff competition for his signature as Bundesliga, Serie A and Premier League clubs are also keeping tabs on his situation in Denmark.
SunSport understands Celtic are keen to bring in at least two new forwards next year – whether that will be in January or next summer – and the 21-year-old is high on the club’s shortlist.
Kvistgaarden played alongside Matt O’Riley in the Danish youth ranks before the midfielder left the under-21s team and was promoted to the senior squad by Kasper Hjulmand this year.
