Celtic shouldn’t be duped into shelling out big bucks for ‘overpriced’ Aberdeen star, say pundits

CELTIC are lining up a record-breaking offer for Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski next month.

SunSport told you how Brendan Rodgers is chasing the North Macedonian star in a January swoop and has sent scouts to watch him in action in every domestic game this season.

Aberdeen are expected to hold out for a record fee between Scottish clubs – more than the £4.4million Celtic paid for Scott Brown in 2007.

The Dons are keen to make a hefty profit on the prolific frontman after snapping him up for a mere £650,000 from MTK Budapest 18 months ago.

They accept they will lose him eventually but they are reluctant to let him go when the window opens.

However, Celtic could force their hand with a substantial offer next month, with several other English clubs and rivals Rangers also keeping tabs on him.

But ex-Hoops star Andy Walker can’t see a January move as he believes the striker is overpriced and insists his former club won’t spend “silly money” on him.

He told Go Radio: “I think he’s a good player and better some of the strikers Rangers have got.

“He’s a good finisher and I think he can fit into the style of play at Celtic. I can see Celtic coming in for him but I don’t think he’ll go for silly money though.”

Former Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson is also a fan of the 24-year-old but he agrees with Walker and isn’t convinced Celtic will splash the cash on him.

He said: “He misses chances but it never seems to affect him. He might miss one or two but gets in positions to take the next one. I think he’s overpriced though. I don’t think he’s worth £4.5million.”

Speaking in May, Aberdeen chief executive Alan Burrows said: “We are under no pressure to sell.

“If anybody wants to take our best assets away from us, particularly ones on long contracts, we are going to be very difficult to deal with.”
