Chandigarh cop faces backlash in Dalhousie over Kangana Ranaut slapping incident

More than a week after the incident where MP Kangana Ranaut was allegedly slapped by a CISF woman constable at Chandigarh airport, ASI Paramjit Singh faced a hostile reception in Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh, over the same issue. The police officer, himself, was not involved in the incident with Kangana Ranaut.

During the encounter, some of the locals allegedly commented, “You hit our MP at the airport in your state and now expect us to welcome you here.” The incident further escalated when a constable with Himachal Police also misbehaved with the UT cop.

Encounter with Hostile Locals
While on a vacation with his family on June 9, ASI Paramjit Singh parked his car in Khajjiar. He later received a call from his son, informing him that locals were objecting to his parking spot. When Paramjit arrived at the scene, he encountered taunts from the locals, who referred to the slapping incident involving Kangana Ranaut. Despite his attempts to explain the situation, the locals became increasingly aggressive.

Police Involvement and Further Escalation
The situation escalated when a constable from the Himachal Pradesh Police arrived and began arguing with Paramjit, insisting that he move his car. After complying with the instructions, ASI Madan Paul of the Himachal Pradesh Police arrived and accused Paramjit of driving in the wrong lane. When Paramjit attempted to prevent the ASI from seizing his car keys by rolling up his windows, the altercation intensified, with more locals joining in.

Incident Recorded and Complaint Filed
In an attempt to document the incident, Paramjit tried to record it on his mobile phone. However, he was physically struck by ASI Madan Paul, causing his phone to fall and turn off. Despite being a police officer from Chandigarh himself, Paramjit faced hostility from the Himachal Pradesh Police and the locals. The harassment continued in front of his family, prompting him to cut short his vacation and return home on the same day. He subsequently filed a formal complaint with the Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) via email, detailing the misconduct and seeking action against those involved.

Lack of Response from Himachal Police
Paramjit Singh expressed disappointment over the lack of response from the Himachal Pradesh Police regarding his complaint. The incident has left him and his family in shock, highlighting the tensions and lack of cooperation between police forces across state lines.

ASI Paramjit Singh’s vacation turned into a distressing ordeal due to the fallout from the Kangana Ranaut slapping incident. This case underscores the need for better inter-police cooperation, mutual respect, and fair treatment of law enforcement personnel, regardless of their state jurisdiction.
