Chanel and Tribeca Festival Announce 2024 Through Her Lens Conversation

Chanel is continuing its support of women in film with its ongoing Through Her Lens initiative with the Tribeca Festival.

The fashion house has just announced a panel discussion, titled “Championing the Next Generation,” set for 4 p.m. on June 7 at the Crosby Street Hotel in SoHo. The panel will feature “Through Her Lens” advisers actress Kerry Washington, director and screenwriter Patty Jenkins and composer Laura Karpman, moderated by documentary filmmaker Perri Peltz.

“Through Her Lens has been instrumental in providing mentorship and support to the next
generation of women and nonbinary filmmakers who are shaping the future of our industry,”
Jenkins said in an announcement about the event.

The event will be open to the public in honor of the late producer Paula Weinstein, who passed in March. Weinstein, who served as chief content officer for Tribeca Enterprises until last fall, was instrumental in establishing the mentoring partnership between Chanel and Tribeca Film.

“She taught us about the importance of mentorship and truly believed that a rising tide lifts all ships, never hesitating to lift up those coming up behind her,” said Tribeca Enterprises cofounder and chief executive officer Jane Rosenthal.

Registration for the panel is open on the Tribeca Film website.

Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program was established in 2015 and provides mentorship for emerging filmmakers who identify as female or gender nonbinary. Chanel’s support pays homage to house founder Gabrielle Chanel’s contributions to the film industry, a link that has continued through creative directors Karl Lagerfeld and Virginie Viard.

The 2024 Tribeca Festival will take place June 5 through June 16 in New York. The festival’s opening night film is “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge,” a documentary about the designer directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton.
