Galopin Des Champs just put himself in the category of SUPERSTARS, his trainer says.
Willie Mullins also revealed they’ll be back to defend their crown next year and look to win it for a third time.
He told ITV: “I think he has just put himself in the superstar category.
“To do what he did and the way he did it, and with the loose horse.
“Paul was just so positive on him.
“I suppose we have to say we’re coming back next year to try and win a third one. He has the ability to do it, we just have to stay sound I think.
“The loose horse was the only concern. I think he hit an early fence but after that he was straightforward and was travelling easy all the time.
“He’s doing everything right and achieving more than I thought he could. You don’t believe those things, you dream they can.”
Townend reacts
A thrilled Paul Townend tells ITV Racing: “Unbelievable. I rode him different to last year and he was so brave for me.
“We were kinda in between at the last and I was afraid he didn’t have enough but it’s the Gold Cup so we had to go for it.
“He’s just pulled out all the stops again.”
