Christian Siriano Teams Up With Bombay Sapphire Gin for Holiday Hosting – WWD

Just in time for the holidays, Christian Siriano and Bombay Sapphire Gin are releasing a collaborative capsule of cocktail-inspired fashions.

The partnership sits within Bombay Sapphire Gin’s “Saw This, Made This,” campaign, which featured Baz Luhrmann last year. Siriano’s collaborative line extends the campaign with his knack for entertaining and design and will be exclusively available for purchase via his e-commerce site starting Monday. 

During his 15-year anniversary spring runway show, Siriano kicked off the collaboration (said to be his first inspired by a beverage) with the debut of his French 75-inspired light blue and gold haute couture gown (which he described as “very French, very Baroque, but still fresh”) and is now extending it with three additional fashions inspired by the Martini, Tom Collins and French 75 cocktails.

“It was really fun when we did that for the show — Bombay Sapphire launched their ‘Saw This, Made This’ campaign and it was nice to be kind of inspired by their drinks, which are iconic and classic drinks. So we thought, let’s make it something more that you could actually buy because sometimes on the runway, when it’s couture, you can’t have a piece of it. We wanted something that people this holiday season would want to wear and feel great in while they’re hosting, entertaining and serving all their chic cocktail drinks. And already, who can’t be inspired by a Martini or Collins? As part of partying in the holiday season, I think a Bombay Sapphire cocktail is on the menu, so why not have a fabulous look to go with it?,” Siriano explained.

The Christian Siriano x Bombay Sapphire collection includes a playful transparent Bombay Sapphire Martini clutch (in the shape of the signature cocktail, with olive-inspired handle) for $150; a white Bombay Sapphire & Tonic cold-shoulder shirtdress with pearl-white buttons and collar-adorned 3D blue and white floral blooms for $350, and a gold Bombay Sapphire Ultimate Collins Blazer for $595. 

“It’s a super limited, tight collection that wanted it to feel very special and unique. We have all sizes, which I think was really important. I really want a range of people to wear this,” Siriano said, noting an emphasis on keeping the festive capsule “not so focused on gender,” as seen through his slightly oversize, masculine-meets-feminine Collins blazer. “I think that anybody could buy these things, which is fun. Especially around the holidays, we all want to just be ourselves, which is very important.”

For the upcoming holiday season, Siriano’s biggest entertaining tip is for cocktail enthusiast hosts to match their decor, beverages and ensembles. 

“What’s kind of interesting is I think pretty cocktails have become decor. It didn’t used to be that way, I think people were just drinking to drink but now, you have a cocktail to be part of your look. I love that these drinks have a twist of lemon, or whatever it may be, and obviously the Bombay Sapphire bottles are already beautiful, right, where it kind of looks like jewelry. I think that was the idea, that now drinks become your party favor in a way,” he said. 

To match his fashions and the signature Bombay Sapphire Gin cocktails, Siriano proposes using icy blue and clear glassware and accessorizing the tablescape with fresh lemons and playful jewels, such as sapphires, as seen through the Christian Siriano x Bombay Sapphire campaign images. 

“I might do it this season. I told my mom, ‘We are not doing anything red and green this holiday season. I want pink metallics with plates, tables and linens.’ I think I’m going to make her napkins out of a dégradé fabric, because it looks fabulous,” he said.
