Rain made for a soggy Colorado spring football game on Saturday, but it certainly didn’t dampen the mood among the recruits who were visiting.
On Sunday, three recruits who visited the Boulder campus this weekend announced their verbal commitments to the Buffs, including brothers Brandon and Colton Hood and offensive line transfer Zack Owens from Clemson.
All three were once teammates at Eagles Landing Christian Academy in McDonough, Ga., and now will be teammates at CU, where they’ll play for head coach Deion Sanders.
Colton Hood is a cornerback who will join the Buffs as a transfer from Auburn. A 5-foot-11, 188-pound redshirt freshman, he has four years of eligibility remaining. He played in four games last season, recording three tackles in 44 snaps played.
Rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports in the 2023 class, Hood had 28 offers coming out of ELCA. He was also an all-state outfielder in baseball.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Brandon Hood is a class of 2024 running back with a three-star rating from 247Sports. He rushed for 3,087 yards and 36 touchdowns in his prep career. According to MaxPreps, he played in only five games each of the past two seasons (totaling 1,029 yards) and had 1,381 yards as a sophomore.
Former NFL defensive back Roderick Hood is an uncle for the two Hood brothers.
Like the Hoods, Owens was on a visit to Boulder this weekend and didn’t leave without giving his pledge to the Buffs and Sanders.
Owens is listed by Clemson as being 6-foot-6, 375 pounds. He appeared in two games last season, playing 13 offensive snaps. He has four years of eligibility remaining.
Coming out of high school in the class of 2023, Owens was rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports, which ranked him as the 18th-best tackle in the class. He had 24 scholarship offers, including from CU’s previous staff.
Also on Sunday, former CU running back Dylan Edwards announced that he has elected to transfer to Kansas State.
Edwards, who led CU with 321 rushing yards as a true freshman last season, put his name into the transfer portal on Tuesday. Edwards starred at Derby (Kan.) High School before coming to CU. He was originally committed to K-State in June of 2022 before flipping to Notre Dame and then to CU.
