NEW DELHI: The application deadline for Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG has been extended till March 31. Earlier, the deadline was till 11 PM on Tuesday. The exam is scheduled to be conducted from May 15 to 31, 2024.
“The deadline for online submission of the application form for the CUET-UG 2024 has been extended up to 9:50 PM on March 31, 2024 based on the request received from candidates and other stakeholders,” said M Jagadesh Kumar, chairperson, UGC.
The standardised test was introduced in 2022 to streamline admission processes across central, state, deemed and private universities nationwide.
So far 200 varsities, including 46 Central universities, 36 State universities, 20 Deemed, 105 Private Universities and six Government Institutions, have registered to utilise CUET-UG scores for admissions in their undergraduate programmes.
A notable departure from tradition, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has outlined a hybrid examination format for CUET-UG 2024, including both computer-based testing and pen-and-paper modes for different subjects.
Officials have indicated that subjects witnessing high registration volumes will adopt a pen-and-paper format using optical mark recognition (OMR), while others will remain computer-based.
In the previous cycle, approximately 14.9 lakh registrations were recorded for CUET-UG, highlighting its significance in the higher education landscape.
The competitive exam will be conducted in 13 languages – English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu and will be conducted in 380 cities including 26 cities outside India.
There are 33 languages and 27 subjects to be chosen from. A candidate may choose any subject/ language as desired by the applicable university/ institution. A total of 40 questions are to be attempted out of 50 in each language.
From among the subjects/ languages, which are divided into three sections, a candidate can choose a maximum of six subjects.
