Dakota Johnson’s Tuxedo Is a Sign of the Times

Dakota Johnson’s off to a busy 2024. Having just hosted Saturday Night Live last weekend, the actor is now embarking on a press tour for Madame Web. The superhero Marvel film co-stars Sydney Sweeney, with Johnson playing Cassandra Webb, a New York City paramedic who begins to show signs of clairvoyance. Sure, we can’t wait for all of the action, but we’re just as excited to see what Johnson wears on the red carpet for the film’s many premieres, leading up to its Valentine’s Day release date. Earlier today, Johnson kicked off her very first one, attending a photo call in London. Her modern black tuxedo was worth taking notes on.

Styled by Kate Young, Johnson wore a cropped black blazer and midi skirt by Versace. Consider her ensemble a sign of the times—it perfectly encapsulates the juxtaposing fashion moods happening at the moment. The look is decidedly stealth-wealth, echoing a movement that took off last year that’s all about embodying quiet, understated luxury. It doesn’t scream statement dressing, but it still feels expensive. On the other hand, the jacket’s cropped silhouette and flash of skin add a touch of sexiness—a theme we’ve seen brands like Alexander McQueen, Valentino, and yes, Versace, leaning into with cutouts for spring.
