Jalin Hyatt was deep in conversation with Daniel Jones after Giants practice Tuesday afternoon, studying film on a tablet while both were sitting at their lockers.
The location of NFL players’ lockers are often telling — revealing friendships, mentorships or cliques that exist on the team.
So how did Hyatt, a rookie receiver, end up with his locker next to starting quarterback Jones, one of the most prime spots?
The locker used to belong to David Sills, who was one of Jones’ best friends.
Before that, it belonged to Kadarius Toney, whom Jones and the Giants were clearly attempting to keep a close eye on.
Well, it wasn’t a long process.
Jones told Hyatt to take the locker next to him, and the speedy receiver obliged.
“I take it as just building a chemistry that we want to build for this team and [to] make plays when we get on the field,” Hyatt told The Post. “The first time I met him, I came up here after I got drafted, and the next day he was the first dude that came up to me, introduced himself.
“A good dude, a good leader. We’re lucky to have him here.”
Entering his first season since he signed a lucrative four-year, $160 million contract extension (which was recently restructured), Jones is expected to be the bona fide face of the franchise.
The Giants added a plethora of new weapons on offense to help Jones — namely Darren Waller, Parris Campbell and Hyatt.
As a result, much of the responsibility has landed on Jones to incorporate and transition the new faces onto the team in the hope the Giants’ offense will be more explosive this season.
Jones has clearly made it a point to mentor and look after the Giants’ new additions, particularly Hyatt, who is the youngest player on the team at 21 years old.
Throughout training camp, Jones was constantly communicating with Hyatt on the sideline in between plays.
“We made progress last year and a lot of guys are back this year, but we also have a lot of new faces and a different group of guys, so it starts over,” Jones said. “Our identity, what we do as a group starts over so we’ve got to go out and play well and we’re prepared to do that.
“I feel great about our guys. I feel like we’re in a really good spot with who we’ve got and how we can attack a defense in a lot of different ways and a lot of different skill sets and dynamic guys to get the ball to in space.”
Hyatt believes Jones is being disrespected.
Before meeting Jones, Hyatt said he became familiar with his new quarterback by playing with him in the “Madden NFL” video game.
“I think he’s definitely a top-10 quarterback in this league,” Hyatt said. “And if you’re a top-10 quarterback in this league you’re not a 75 overall [player rating], so they need to fix it.”
