On Wednesday, the air quality in Delhi and the surrounding areas fell into the severe category once more. The smoke from burning post-harvest paddy straw in the surrounding states is responsible for about one-third of the air pollution in the nation’s capital.
Earlier, several schools in Noida have stopped outdoor activity of students, such as morning assemblies or sports activities. Raising concerns over students’ health, some schools have announced that they will switch to online mode of classes.
How is the AQI measured?
The Air Quality Index (AQI) is a measure of how clean or polluted the air is. It is calculated using data from air quality monitors that measure the concentration of five major pollutants: ground-level ozone, particle pollution (PM2.5 and PM10), carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide.
The AQI is reported on a scale of 0 to 500. The higher the AQI, the greater the level of air pollution and the greater the health concern
