Several areas in East Delhi including Shahdra, Vivek Vihar were affected from the power outage. As per Atishi, the power restoration has been started in several areas.
In response to the situation, Atishi announced plans to meet with the new Union Power Minister to discuss the issue, emphasizing that the country’s power transmission is managed by the central government. “I will seek an appointment with the new Union Power Minister today since the country’s power transmission is run by the central government,” she said.
Atishi criticized the central government’s handling of the power infrastructure. “It is worrying that the national-level power infrastructure has come to a standstill today. The failure of the national grid in the country’s capital is quite worrying. There was no power cut even when Delhi’s peak power demand reached 8,000 MW. This power cut happened due to the failure of the national infrastructure,” she remarked.
The power outage has intensified the ongoing feud between the AAP and the Centre-appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, particularly regarding the city’s acute water crisis. Recently, Mr. Saxena met with AAP ministers over the water crisis and urged them to avoid a blame game with Haryana, which AAP has accused of not releasing Delhi’s share of water.
Meanwhile, social media was abuzz with complaints from Delhi residents experiencing power cuts. One user from east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar posted, “No electricity in east Delhi Vivek Vihar. Please resolve the issue. This season is already at its peak. Hard to tolerate.” Another from Yamuna Vihar wrote, “Dear BSES, electricity is not available in the Yamuna Vihar C2 block for two hours. It is Delhi. Please do not take revenge on us. Why is electricity not available for two hours?” tagging BSES, AAP, and Arvind Kejriwal.
As Delhi grapples with these challenges, the need for efficient management and swift resolution becomes ever more critical.
