Denver’s AdventHealth Porter hospital won’t reopen until at least Nov. 9

AdventHealth Porter, the southwest Denver hospital that shut down Monday after a boiler system failure, won’t be able to reopen until at least Nov. 9.

The hospital lost heat and hot water due to the failure, transported patients to other facilities and sent staff to other facilities to support patients as needed, according to a company news release at the time of the closure.

A new temporary boiler arrived Wednesday and is being installed, and the existing boilers are being repaired, said Rachel Robinson, regional communications director for AdventHealth, in an emailed statement, but regulatory steps cannot be completed until the new boiler is operational.

“As a result, we will not re-open on Monday, Nov. 6 as we had originally hoped,” Robinson said.

The new targeted reopening date, Nov. 9, is for emergent and acute inpatient services.

Elective surgical procedures won’t resume until Nov. 13.

Robinson said the hospital is working with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and other agencies to complete regulatory steps “to ensure that all quality and safety measures are being met.”

The medical office buildings at 850 and 950 E. Harvard Ave., and the Porter Medical Plaza at 2535 S. Downing St., were not affected by the boiler outage and are still open.

AdventHealth Porter was previously known as Centura Porter Adventist Hospital.
