ORiGINAL STORY
Less than a week after suffering a shoulder injury that could have ended his season, Derek Carr may actually start this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Carr was present at practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but did not participate. However, on Friday, he took all of the first team reps in Saints practice.
After being sacked early in the 3rd quarter and leaving the game against the Packers, it was feared that Carr’s injury was serious. However, it turned out to be a sprained AC joint, which will take weeks, not months, to recover from.
Now, there is a chance that Carr may not miss any games due to the injury.
ORIGINAL STORY
Still recovering from their loss to the Green Bay Packers, the New Orleans Saints are preparing for their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday. There are questions surrounding starting quarterback Derek Carr’s availability for the game.
Carr was sacked and injured early in the 3rd quarter last week. Initially, it was feared to be a severe injury that could potentially end his season. However, it is now known that he has a sprained AC joint, which is less serious than originally expected. Nevertheless, Carr may still miss a couple weeks of action.
Dr. Michael Duval, from Louisiana Orthopaedic Specialists and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns team physician, discussed Carr’s injury and potential timeline for his return on Wednesday’s SportsChat with Dave Schultz & Lynden Burton.
My interpretation of what’s going on with Derek’s shoulder, he had a low-grade acromioclavicular joint sprain. And that in itself is a common injury. It does take some time to return to football, simply because it’s sore. And it takes time to absorb the hit. It may be a couple of weeks before he can scramble and get out there to take contact.

The Saints started the season with two close victories and Carr played a crucial role in both games. Although it is not official, it seems likely that Jameis Winston will lead the Saints against the Buccaneers and potentially against the New England Patriots next week.
After coming in for Carr against the Packers, Winston had a solid performance and put the Saints in position for a go-ahead field goal. However, the kick was missed and the Saints fell short by one point.
