Drunk former Ohio mayor leads cops on chase

A former mayor of a small town in Ohio drunkenly led cops on a high-speed chase — and told them “what you’re doing is wrong” as she tried to flaunt her former position to avoid arrest.

Cathy Luks, who served as the mayor of North Royalton from 1999 to 2007, was pulled over after cops noticed she was driving with an expired license plate on Wednesday afternoon.

When an officer caught up with her, the 66-year-old seemed dazed and confused — and refused to cooperate, body camera footage released by the Parma Police Department shows.

In the footage, an officer could be seen approaching Luks’ vehicle at an intersection.

He asks the former mayor, “Can we pull into this parking lot?” to which she replies, simply, “No.”

The cop then tries to explain to Luks he pulled her over “because you were going 43 [mph] in a 25 [mph] zone.”

“Do you have a license with you?” he proceeds to ask Luks, who again replies, “no.”

At that point, the officer asks her where her drivers’ license is, to which she once again simply replies, “no.”

Finally, he asks Luks if she could pull her car into a local park, to which she said, “OK, sure.”

She appeared to be looking for the gear shift, when she rolled up her windows and sped off, leaving the officer behind.

The cop then had to run back to his patrol car, where he turned on the lights and sirens, as he followed Luks down the suburban neighborhood — reporting at one point she was driving as fast as 65 mph.

But just about 30 seconds later, the cop was able to catch up with Luks after she lost control of her vehicle, jumped a curb and crashed into a tow truck that was parked at an Automotive Repair shop, according to Cleveland 19.

The cop could then be seen in the footage pulling Luks out of her car, as she still seemed confused.

He tried to get her to sit in the back of a patrol car, but she refused — constantly asking for her “stuff back.”

At one point, she also asks the officer, “What’s this?” to which he replies “handcuffs.”

“What?” he asks incredulously. “Do you not remember taking off?”

Apparently beginning to understand what was happening, Luks decided to tout her former leadership role.

“What you are doing is wrong, let me tell you how it works,” she tells the cop. “You know what, I was the mayor of the city of North Royalton.

“I have been so f–ing used by men, so used,” she says, prompting another cop who arrived on the scene to turn to the officer whose body camera was filming the incident with a quizzical look on his face.

Luks is now charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, speeding, open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and driving with expired license plates.

She has not yet entered a plea.

The case is expected to be turned over to a grand jury, which will determine whether Luks should also face a felony charge of failure to comply.
