I have a love-hate relationship with foundation. On one hand, at times I find it necessary to use, especially if I’m experiencing a breakout or need a quick fix for my hyperpigmentation. On the other, I don’t like the way it leaves my skin feeling weighed-down and gross, especially if I have to wear it for more than a few hours at a time.
In the warmer months, I typically forgo it altogether, but as a newly single girl who is planning on spending her summer dating like her life depends on it, I knew I was going to have to find something I could embrace with open arms. That’s where the E.l.f. Soft Glam Foundation ($8) comes in. I was only recently introduced to this product (it’s brand-new), but it’s quickly become my secret weapon for a no-makeup makeup look as well as for full glam.

What I Like About the E.l.f. Soft Glam Foundation
I have dry, acne-prone skin, with lots and lots of freckles. As previously mentioned, these days, my freckles look more like just plain hyperpigmentation than anything, so although I don’t love foundation, I’ve been relying on it to help even out my skin tone, especially when I’m going out.
When I’m wearing makeup, I don’t like to feel like I have a lot of product on my skin. The first time I tested this foundation, I immediately fell in love with the consistency. The formula is lightweight and easy to blend, and after application my face looks fresh, not cake-y. I look like myself, but a little bit better. (OK, a lot better.)
I typically like my foundations to look more dewy than matte, and this lands firmly in the middle with its silky finish. I don’t have to worry about looking oily, but the formula is still hydrating enough that it also doesn’t cling to dry patches or flake throughout the night. Plus, you can’t beat that price point. I test a lot of makeup for work, and I always cringe a little inside when I recommend an expensive product, even if it’s good. This one is great, and it’s budget-friendly, so trust me when I say I’ll be recommending it to everyone I know.
How to Use the E.l.f. Soft Glam Foundation
The brand recommends using a foundation brush or a sponge to buff and blend the product all over the face and upper neck.
Personally, after completing my skin-care routine, I like to start out with squeezing a dime-sized amount onto the back of my hand. If I’m going for a lighter look, I’ll mix in a little moisturizer to thin out the consistency. If not, I’ll just apply it as-is, dipping a finger into the formula and dabbing it all over my face. Fro there, I blend everything out using a foundation brush. I like to set it using a small amount of powder, and then I spritz on a setting spray, which I blend out using a beauty sponge.
What to Consider Before Trying the E.l.f. Soft Glam Foundation
This foundation is medium coverage and buildable, and it offers enough coverage for me, but I wouldn’t consider this a “full coverage” product. If you’re looking for something that’s more heavy duty, I’d keep searching. However, for my needs, this foundation is perfect.
Where the E.l.f. Soft Glam Foundation Is Available
