An East Kimberley man has caught the culprit who has been stealing his chickens — but it is not who he thought it was.
On Wednesday, the man’s friend shared the gruesome news to X (formerly Twitter), revealing the clever chicken thief who had been evading detection to be a humongous snake.
The snake, resembling an Olive Python that grows to an average length of 3.5 metres, was captured strangling a young hen.
The snake’s head — initially “thumb-sized” — seemed to expand tenfold as it opened its jaws to encompass half of the chicken.
The tweet explained the man originally blamed his dogs as he noticed a few of his chickens were going missing at his remote East Kimberley home.
“Blamed dogs but then caught this 🐍 in the act 😱, “ it read.
