Educational institutes are builders of future of a Nation: Former President Kovind

“Educational institutes of a nation are the builders of its future. Students who are receiving their degrees today must give back to society. They must help the weaker sections of the society so that they can improve their lives”, former President of India, Ram Nath Kovind said this as chief guest at the 33rd convocation of Kurukshetra University (KU) on Friday in the Bhagvada Gita Sadan.

While lauding the academic and research achievements of KU, Kovind said that it has given 5 Padma Shri, 16 Arjuna, 6 Dronacharya and one Major Dhyan Chand awardee and a large number of scientists, thinkers, artists and political leaders to the nation. It speaks of the high standard of education given by the university, he said.
Kovind gave nine gold medals to the faculty toppers, 63 toppers of different departments and 88 Ph.D. students received degrees in the convocation. A total of 1,660 students received degrees in the KU convocation.

Former president conferred honorary degrees of Doctor of Literature on Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat and Swami Gyananand for their contribution to society in various fields.
Another highlight of the convocation was that Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar was conferred Basic Certificate in Japanese language and culture by the former president. CM Khattar along with five other government officials, were students of the first batch of the three-month certificate course offered by KU.
Addressing this occasion, CM Khattar said that learning different languages makes you create cultural bridges of love and brotherhood. He called upon the graduates to work hard for the nation which will be the true test of their education. CM also addressed the students in the Japanese language, which was well received by the audience.
KU vice-chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdev in his welcome speech said that Kurukshetra University, taking a lead in the country, has implemented NEP-2020 in all UG programmes in all its on-campus and affiliated colleges. He said that the university has filed 53 patents, ranked third in MAKA trophy and ranked number one among all state universities of India in the National Youth Festival held at Bangalore.
Governor of Haryana and KU Chancellor Bandaru Dattatreya said that today out of 9 faculty toppers 8 are girls and out of 55 total departments, 39 girls are gold medalists and 16 boys. This speaks of the change in the society where women are leading the nation in every field.
