Eminem has a message for Matthew Stafford: You owe me.
The Detroit rapper — real name Marshall Mathers — posted a video on Sunday Night Football on NBC’s X feed asking the former Detroit Lions quarterback to let his former team win Sunday night vs. his current team, the Los Angeles Rams.
The two teams meet at Ford Field where the Lions host their first home playoff game in 30 years, and their first ever inside Ford Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m.
Mitch Albom: Matthew Stafford vs. Detroit Lions in playoffs a huge deal — except to him
“Stafford. What’d I say?,” Eminem starts in the video, donning a No. 20 custom Barry Sanders king hooded sweatshirt.
“You owe me this favor, bro. I was there for you when you won it. I was there for you. I was right there,” he goes on to say, alluding to Stafford’s Super Bowl win in Los Angeles in 2022. “I rapped for you, Stafford. Bro, I rapped for you.”
Jeff Seidel: Some musical tweaks would give Detroit Lions a crazy advantage at Ford Field
“Can you just let us have this one?” Eminem pleads in the end of the video. “Just this one.”
Stafford was drafted No. 1 overall by the Lions in 2009 to become their franchise quarterback. Though Stafford led the Lions to the playoffs several times, his teams were all on the road and unable to secure the franchise’s first playoff win since 1991.
With the Lions entering another rebuild with a new regime, Stafford was traded in 2021 to the Rams for quarterback Jared Goff and two first-round picks. Stafford proceeded to win a Super Bowl in 2022 with the Rams, while Goff and the Lions are playing in the playoffs for the first time since the trade.
