FC Barcelona Reach Agreement With The Rolling Stones For El Clasico

FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with classic rock band The Rolling Stones and Spotify ahead of the next installment of El Clasico versus Real Madrid, which was announced by the Catalan club on Thursday morning.

A La Liga edition of the world’s biggest derby will be played at the Montjuic Stadium on October 28. And for the match which will be watched by a huge television audience worldwide, Barca will have the logo of arguably the biggest music group of all time feature on the front of their jerseys.

The iconic ‘Tongue and Lips’ logo will temporarily replace the Spotify logo on the classic Blaugrana shirt but is still tied into the club’s agreement with the streaming giant.

Last season, for the same fixture at the Spotify Camp Nou, Barca used the logo of famous Catalan singer Rosalia on their way to a 2-1 win over their bitter rivals that effectively sealed the La Liga title.

Barca said that the agreement with The Rolling Stones brings “the spirit of a band that has played all over the world to a global stage like that game”, i.e. El Clasico.

“The Stones have provided the soundtrack to millions of lives of several generations and have more than enough curriculum to be candidates to appear on the Barca shirt, but they have been chosen at this precise moment because on Friday, October 20, they will release their new album, ‘Hackney Diamonds’, the first with new studio songs since 2005,” the club explained.

Barca revealed that The Rolling Stones logo will also feature on the front of the women’s team’s shirt when they take on Sevilla on November 5 at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.

In a statement, the group said they are “huge football fans” grateful that Spotify “has brought our tongue and lips logo to the FC Barcelona jersey to celebrate the release of the Stones’ new album, ‘Hackney Diamonds’.

“We will cheer on the players who will be on the pitch, as well as the fans around the world who will tune in to this iconic match,” they vowed.

Fans that wish to get a hold of one of the limited edition shirts will have to be quick. There will only be 1899 of them available in match quality and 22 that have been signed by the band.

For those that miss out, however, there will be other items of Barca clothing with the logo on which will go on sale on October 20.
