Finnish brand Marimekko launches online outlet sale with 60 per cent off clothing, bags and accessories

Finnish design house Marimekko is hosting an epic outlet sale with 60 per cent off clothing, bags and accessories and 50 per cent off homewares.

Founded in 1951 the store is well-known for its colourful printed designs in divine, high-quality fabrics.

From Monday 16 until Sunday 22 October the brand will have more than 500 pieces of stock discounted including handbags, backpacks, jackets, woollen jumpers, silk scarves, plates and even mugs.

Plenty of celebrities adore the brand and its iconic poppy print, including Jacqueline Kennedy, who in 1960 appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated wearing one of seven dresses she bought from Marimekko’s store in the US.

I’m a big fan of the jersey shorts, which are discounted to $86 from $215, and the Tulokas Kesäheinä dress, which is now $198, down from $495.

The Neilikka mules are a must-buy for the office, with just enough heel to feel corporate without going over the top. They’re down to $170 from $425.

And if you’re looking to replace your standard water bottle, look no further than the Rulla, which has an adorable bunny on it and will set you back just $37.20.

There are already a number of aprons, tea towels and oven mitts that have sold out since the sale began, so it’s worth getting in now before more stock disappears.

Marimekko’s story begins in Viljo Ratia’s textile printing company Printex.

His wife, Armi Ratia, commissioned young artists to design new, bold patterns for the company.

Printex – and later Marimekko – printed textiles by hand until December 1973.

In 2022 the company’s net sales were $A278 million, generated from both the online website that services 35 countries and the 150 stores around the world.

The key markets for the brand are Northern Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and North America.
