A quintet of Kaizer Chiefs stars are playing for their futures with contracts expiring in 2025.
Five Kaizer Chiefs stars playing for new deals
Ranga Chivaviro
31-year-old striker Ranga Chivaviro hasn’t exactly been [pulling up trees since his move from Marumo Gallants. Ironically, Chiefs’ first match of the new Betway Premiership campaign is against newly-promoted Gallants on 14 September. It could provide the impetus and motivation he needs to get 2024-2025 off to a flying start. He has four goals in 23 appearances for Chiefs to date, a statistic he’ll need to improve. If he doesn’t, that might spell the end of his Amakhosi tenure.
Yusuf Maart
Highly thought of within the club for his tactical smartness and leadership ability, the 29-year-old’s most memorable moment as a Chiefs player was undoubtedly his wonder goal against Orlando Pirates in October 2022. The compact former Sekhukhune midfield schemer is likely to be offered new terms.
Edmilson Dove
The league allows clubs to register a maximum of five foreign players. Currently, those five are Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Edmilson Dove, Christian Saile, Edson Castillo and Fiacre Ntwari. To register Miguel, Chiefs must sell or loan out one of these five. Early indications from KickOff are that Edmilson Dove could be the man to make way. The experienced Mozambican star is still recovering from a lengthy injury layoff coming at the worst possible time.
George Matlou
Undoubtedly talented, unfortunately, the skilful Soweto-born midfield man hasn’t showcased it enough. Opportunities in the first team come at a premium; he’s only made 25 appearances since joining in July 2022. It would be a surprise to see him at the club in 2025-2026.
Reeve Frosler
Usually understudy to Dillan Solomons at right-back, Frosler might start the campaign as first-choice left-back with Solomons out injured. Frosler’s ability to play on either flank might work to his advantage when contract negotiations start later in the campaign.
What would be your dream signing in the remainder of the window?
