AN EMIRATES plane heading to Canada has been forced to land in Scotland after declaring a mid-air emergency.
The plane, travelling from Dubai to Toronto, issued a 7700 squawk code, signalling an emergency onboard.
The flight took off from Dubai International Airport at 04:09am UTC (or 00.22am GMT) today after it was due to take off at 3.55am.
It was scheduled to land at Toronto Pearson International Airport at around 11am EST.
However, the EK241 flight was diverted to Glasgow after the emergency squawk was issued.
An emergency squawk is used to identify an aircraft that has a possible issue and enables it to have priority over other air traffic.
Snaps from FlightRader24 show that it was forced to turn over the North Sea as it approached the Shetland Islands.
It then turned and began flying south and headed towards the north of England.
The plane then headed west and landed at Glasgow International Airport at 8.30am GMT.
It is currently unclear what sparked the emergency.
