California police arrested a Miami man after he allegedly stole a small propellor plane, crashed it onto a beach in Half Moon Bay before leaving the scene. Listen, you can take the man out of Florida, but you cannot take the Florida out of the man.
San Mateo County Sheriff Deputies got a report of a small aircraft landing “on or near a beach” in Half Moon Bay around 5 p.m. on Thursday, according to a press release from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. After a bit of a search, police found the plane, intact but unoccupied, on the sand near Poplar Beach, about 30 miles south of San Francisco. Police believe the airplane was stolen from an airport in Palo Alto, California – about 24 miles away from the crash site.
From the photo alone, you can see our Florida man, Luiz Gustavo Aires, definitely had a bit of a rough landing, but he was apparently able to just walk away from the crash, and that’s exactly what he did. Deputies located a man matching the description of the person piloting the plane just leisurely walking away. Pretty cool, not gonna lie. It reminds me of that opening scene in Drive.
Aires was later charged with theft of an airplane and taken to jail. Whatever happened to the rule of cool? That being said, if the rule of cool defense doesn’t work for Aires, he can always just say he was super excited for Grand Theft Auto 6. I get it. I am too.
