Mallorca, who are 15th in the Spanish top flight, last won this trophy back in 2003 – so it is a huge moment for the team.

The Jersey-born ace has been officially involved with the club since 2017 in his role as a non-executive director.

But he advised the ownership – which involves ex-NBA star Steve Nash – on sporting matters prior to that.

Le Saux, 55, does not attend all league fixtures but has a strong bond with the Mediterranean island, which he has visited for several years.

It is understood he acts as a conduit between the board, ownership and sporting side of the club.

This includes advising, negotiations and supporting across business and culture.

As a player, Le Saux came up against Mallorca in the 1999 European Cup-Winners’ Cup semi-finals but it ended in heartache as Chelsea were beaten 2-1 on aggregate over two legs.

Le Saux made 312 appearances across two spells at Chelsea after initially coming through the club’s academy.

He won the league with Blackburn and had a spell at Southampton, making 403 top-flight appearances.

The former full-back also won 36 England caps and featured at the 1998 World Cup.
