Former Pirates star to sign for Cape Town Spurs?

Cape Town Spurs can’t stop signing players. A former Orlando Pirates defender is expected to be announced.

CAPE TOWN SPURS TO SIGN FORMER ORLANDO PIRATES?

The 32-year-old Gumede is a free agent after partig ways with Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) side Maritzburg United. Reports say the reason was based on a contractual disagreement.

The Soweto-born star has since been spotted training with Spurs. According to sources close to the Urban Warriors, Gumede has impressed coach Ernst Middendorp.

Additionally, Spurs need the former Pirates star to replace four exprienced central defenders.

Clayton Daniels and Nazier Allie are seemingly retiring, Lubeni Haukongo is out injured for the rest of the season, while Logan Brown has been released.

Gumede is expected to partner up with the likes of Rafiq de Goede, Siviwe Nkwali, Obakhe Tshaya and Gerrard Moroole who has been converted into a central defender.

Gumede’s vast experience includes over 200 games in all competitions. His former clubs include SuperSport United, Platinum Stars, Pirates, Cape Town City and AmaZulu.

Meanwhile, Spurs, languishing with six points behind the 15th place Richards Bay, have a home game this weekend.

The Urban Warriors will host TS Galaxy at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday, 3 March at 15:30.

In the meantime, Spurs are expected to announce Gumede this week.
