She advanced her education by receiving a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from Subharti Medical College in Meerut. Initially, Dr. Jain practiced dentistry using her BDS qualification. However, motivated by a desire to serve her country in a much wider capacity, she embarked on a transformational journey to become an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer. From 2015, she dedicated herself to various civil service roles, beginning with the Armed Forces Headquarters Service, according to various reports. Dr. Jain set out on her UPSC journey with determination, knowing fully well that the road ahead was tough and bumpy. Although passing the prelims was a significant accomplishment, Dr. Tanu Jain suffered a setback in the Mains examination and was unable to crack it due to inadequate preparation. Rather than being disheartened, she saw this setback as an opportunity for self-reflection and growth. Dr. Jain meticulously examined her performance, identifying areas where she fell short and recording her flaws and errors in a detailed diary.
She addressed each point in a systematic manner, emphasising the importance of ongoing self-assessment and improvement. Although she did not pass the Main examination at her first attempt, Dr. Jain persevered and achieved a rank of 648 on her third attempt.
