The Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes are underway.

In the early days of Major League Baseball’s offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers have emerged as the early favorite to land the two-way Japanese sensation this winter, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

The reigning National League West champions are currently +100 to sign Ohtani, who officially became a free agent the day after the Texas Rangers won the 2023 World Series.

Adding Ohtani to the duo of Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman would immediately create one of the scariest 1-2-3 trios in baseball history.

Although he won’t pitch in 2024, Ohtani could slot in as the Dodgers’ ace in a rotation that, by 2025, will likely feature a bevy of solid, young starting pitchers.

The Dodgers far outpace the rest of the teams in the running for Ohtani’s services on the DraftKings odds board.

After missing out on Aaron Judge and Carlos Correa last offseason, the San Francisco Giants have the second-best odds (+550) to sign Ohtani.

Bereft of star talent, the Giants have long been linked to Ohtani as they look to land a big name.

The Cubs and Mets are tied with the third-best chances at Ohtani at +700.

Chicago, which was floated as a dark horse to sign Ohtani by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale this week, opened at +1500, but quickly more than halved its odds, putting itself squarely in the Ohtani free agency lottery, per DraftKings.

After sweeping in to sign manager Craig Counsell away from the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cubbies are apparently looking to make big moves this winter.

The Yankees and Rangers are the only two other teams with odds better than 10/1, sitting at +750 and +850, respectively.

Oddsmakers are seeing little shot at an Angels-Ohtani reunion.

The Angels are +1500 – ninth on the list – to re-sign Ohtani.

After years of falling short of the playoffs and few avenues toward true contention going forward, Ohtani appears to be seeking a team that can get him to the postseason for the first time rather than return to Anaheim.
