Generous Rangers supporters help fan with Ibrox ticket after 5300-mile trip – then APOLOGISE for team’s Euro display

BIG-HEARTED Rangers fans sorted out a far-flung fan with match tickets – then APOLOGISED the match was so bad.

But Atalante supporter Luis insisted he “enjoyed every single minute with the fans at Ibrox”.

The Gers superfan is based in Mexico City and runs the @RangersFCMexic1 account on X.com.

He travelled more 5300 miles from home to see the sights around Scotland – and his favourites in the flesh.

Only, he couldn’t get a ticket.

Luis had been due to make the long-haul journey with a mate but travelled alone for a few days in the city this month.

He celebrated his arrival with two cans of Tennent’s but was resigned to watching Thursday’s Europa League clash in the pub until a kind-hearted Ger stepped in online.

After hitting the football hotspots like Hampden, taking a tour of the National Stadium and Scottish football museum and detailing his trip in tweets, he revealed he’d only planned to watch the vital match on TV.

But one kind-hearted Gers fan – @Threeli00295815 – stepped in and said: “I’ll give you one for free if you want it. Not having you travel half way across the world to watch us in a boozer.”

And despite a limp performance on the park, the far-flung fan lapped up every minute of his surprise match and is planning to see the clash with St Mirren on Sunday too.

“Thanks for everyone who made this possible. Thanks a lot for your advice and patience with my English.”

But it was Gers fans who apologised on the team’s behalf after Ross McCausland rose from the bench and secured Gers’ Euro campaign would roll into 2024 with a vital equaliser.

The rising star replaced the Mexican fan’s favourite Todd Cantwell in a controversial substitution, and things didn’t quite go to plan for his 3-0 prediction either, tipping Cantwell to score twice.

One fan wrote: “Apologies for the s*** football you travelled so far to see.”

But Luis replied: “Still enjoyed every single minute with the fans at Ibrox.”

Another added: “Shame the team didn’t perform for your visit.”

He replied: “But the people, atmosphere amazing.”

Pundit Tam McManus branded the atmosphere toxic however. He criticised grumbling Gers fans’ boos and jeers.

He said: “Not been a great performance from Rangers but still plenty time to pull it back.

“Maybe if the fans at Ibrox stopped booing and slaughtering every loose touch from their own players they might feel a bit more confident of getting on ball/making something happen.

“Atmosphere toxic.”
