Genesis Unveils Neolun And GV60 Magma Concepts It Says Demonstrate The Brand’s Evolution

Genesis just pulled the wraps off of two concepts. The Neolun Concept hints at a high-end luxury trim with coach doors, swiveling seats, and a radiant heating system. On the other end of the spectrum, the new GV60 Magma signals a new performance program for Genesis.

Genesis goes as far as to say that these cars represent “a critical milestone in the brand’s evolution.” The Neolun is a full-size electric SUV with a few tricks up its sheet metal. For instance, it does away with the B-pillar. This opens up the cabin and allows easy access through the rear-hinged coach doors or the front doors.

Radiant heating elements in the door trims, the floor, the dashboard, and seatbacks call back to Korea’s “ondol” radiant heating system found in homes. In addition, the front seats swivel to enable a communal experience in the cabin. An adjustable display unfolds from the rear-seat headliner in a way that sounds similar to BMW‘s rear-seat display.

Don’t think that it’s all just fancy features that’ll never make production either. While we don’t expect the swiveling seats to pass muster here in the States, Genesis says that the “B-pillarless” coach doors are production feasible. The rear-seat entertainment system is clearly plausible and the heating system is too.

Magma Performance Program

In addition to the Neolun concept, Genesis launched the GV60 Magma which points to a whole new trim level. The Magma Performance Program is going to end up reaching every model in the lineup. The GV60 is just the beginning it seems and comes with “improved battery and motor technology.”

On top of that, it has unique exterior detailing, unique suspension tuning, and considerations for thermodynamics. It’s wider and lower than the normal GV60 and the air intake aids in battery cooling. The interior benefits from bucket seats, leather upholstery, and double-diamond stitching.

The GV60 Magma is joined by the G80 Magma Special, an “enhanced version of the G80 with improved driving performance.” Interestingly, Genesis is quiet about exactly how much more power and, well, performance this new Performance Program offers in the GV60 and the G80.

Interestingly, Genesis also brought the previously released X Gran Berlinetta Concept to the party too. Maybe that’s a nod to the idea that it might actually put the wild sports car concept into production. We can only hope.
