Giants’ Mark Glowinski predicts Daniel Jones will ‘kick a–’ in 2023

Mark Glowinski thinks Giants teammate Daniel Jones is going to have a “kick a–” year.

Glowinski spent last season, the guard’s first with the team, protecting Jones and watching the quarterback’s swagger grow through what turned out to be a career year for the Giants’ No. 6 overall pick in 2019.

“I think it’s going to be even a better season now that he has … that little bit of sense of relief in the sense that he doesn’t have to prove (anything) to anybody and now he can just go out there and have fun and kick a–,” Glowinski in an interview Wednesday on the “Ross Tucker Football Podcast.”

Jones finally found some consistency in the 2022 campaign after he didn’t surpass 200 passing yards and threw just three touchdowns in the Giants’ first four games.

Head coach Brian Daboll was brought on board prior to the 2022 season, and while Jones has played for three head coaches and four offensive coordinators in four seasons, the hiring proved to be a productive one.

Jones’ 67.2 completion percentage was a franchise record, and he also posted career-bests with 317 completions, 472 attempts, 3,205 yards and five interceptions.

The quarterback also led the league with a 1.1 interception percentage, 708 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.

“He did a great job, especially coming off of the, you know, past couple of years where he’s had a different coach,” Glowinski said.

“And even with last year, he had a new coach. So he is, you can tell early on in the season, that he had a little bit of tightness in him, where he wanted to make sure he was being right all the time.”

The Giants inked Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract extension in March, locking him into the franchise quarterback role he has begun to own.

Glowinski joined the Giants in March 2022, signing a three-year, $18.3 million deal.

The offensive lineman started 16 games last season after playing in Seattle for three years and with the Colts for four years prior to that.

“I would just tell him to try to stay loose and have as much fun out there,” Glowinski said.

“And I felt like every game that we were winning, he was opening up a little bit more and you would see a little bit more fire in him and more and more and that swagger was coming out. And there was a lot of fun that was being played last season.”

The Giants clinched playoff positioning for the first time since 2016 last season and won their first postseason game since 2011 with a January victory over Minnesota.

The squad’s opening game of the 2023 campaign is on Sept. 10 against Dallas.
