Vânia Nonnenmacher, the mother of supermodel Gisele Bündchen, has died. She was 75.
Brazil news outlet GZH reported that Nonnenmacher died Sunday after battling an undisclosed form of cancer.
According to the outlet, Nonnenmacher had been admitted to the Hospital Moinhos de Vento in Porto Alegre for treatment on Friday.
“Hospital Moinhos de Vento announces the death of Vânia Maria Nonnenmacher Bündchen this Sunday (28) due to cancer. At the age of 75, she was admitted to Hospital Moinhos de Vento on January 26,” according to the hospital statement obtained by GZH and signed by four doctors.
The Post reached out to reps for Bündchen, 43, for comment.
Born on July 23, 1948, Nonnenmacher was the mother of six daughters: Rafaela, Graziela, Gabriela and Raquel, along with Gisele and her fraternal twin sister, Patrícia.
Nonnenmacher played a vital role in jumpstarting her daughters’ careers by enrolling Gisele, Patrícia and Gabriela in a modeling course that taught posture and gave them confidence.
At the end of the course, the trio was rewarded with a trip to Rio de Janeiro, where Bündchen was discovered by Elite Model Management — the rest was history.
Earlier this month, Bündchen revealed that her mother’s ongoing health issues inspired her to change her diet.
“I want to live the longest feeling the best that I can, but for me to achieve this, I have to make decisions today,” she explained to Harper’s Bazaar. “I want to live the longest feeling the best that I can, but for me to achieve this, I have to make decisions today.”
Bündchen’s remarks came as she promoted her forthcoming cookbook, “Nourish: Simple Recipes to Empower Your Body and Feed Your Soul.”
In 2022, Bündchen wished her mother a happy birthday in a heartwarming Instagram post.
“Happy birthday Mom,” wrote the former Victoria’s Secret model. “I am forever grateful for all that you have done and continue to do for us.”
“Thank you for always loving, inspiring and teaching us,” she added. “Thank you for giving me life! Love you so much!”
Nonnenmacher — a retired bank clerk who resided in Horizontina, Rio Grande do Sul with her husband, Valdir, 74 — appeared on the cover of Vogue Brazil with Bündchen in 2018.
GZH reports a wake is planned for Monday at the Ecumenical Chapel of the Metropolitan Crematorium in Porto Alegre, with a farewell ceremony set for later in the day.
