A proud Vice Chancellor (VC), GNDU, Prof. Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu informed that GNDU athletes left an indelible mark by securing a phenomenal 7 Gold medals, 3 Silver medals, and 2 Bronze medals, adding to the impressive tally that India garnered at the global event .
“This achievement has propelled India to the 7th rank in the medal tally which is an impressive feat considering the nation’s previous tally of 18 medals over a span of 60 years” said the VC.
The FISU World University Games held in Chengdu, China from July 28 to August 8, 2023.
Chinese President Xi Jinping officially opened the 31st summer edition of the FISU World University Games on July 28 in Chengdu, the capital city of southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
The FISU World University Games drew participation from 10,000 athletes and officials representing 113 countries .
“GNDU athletes not only demonstrated their exceptional skills but also embodied the spirit of dedication and perseverance that defines their institution” said Jaspal.
The VC said that the success of GNDU athletes was a true testament to their relentless efforts and the dedicated guidance of their coaches. These victories stand as an inspiration to aspiring athletes, highlighting the potential within the Indian sporting landscape, he added.
Athletes from Punjab University Chandigarh clinched 2 Gold, 3 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals, showcasing their prowess on the global platform. Equally remarkable, Punjabi University Patiala athletes secured 3 Gold, 1 Silver, and 3 Bronze medals, further emphasizing the exceptional performance of Punjab-based institutions.
While expressing immense pride in the accomplishments of their athletes, Jaspal congratulated them for bringing honor to the university and the nation.
