A GOVERNMENT agency has announced it will review funding for an explicit ‘sex cave show’.
Creative Scotland awarded artist Leonie Rae Gasson £84,555 in January to develop the show, Rein, in January.
We told on Saturday how the show was recruiting six performers to take part in filming a 45-minute long video installation featuring “daddies lurking in the woods” and “lovers frolicking in long grass.”
Those who participated in the show were to be paid £270 per day to take part in the “non-stimulated” sex.
And the recruitment ad was looking for people over the age of 18 with previous sex work experience “particularly in porn contexts” was encouraged.
But the government agency has said they are reviewing the award after the show was “considerably more explicit” than first indicated.
A statement said the project’s application to the National Lottery Open Fund did not indicate how explicit the show was going to be.
A spokeswoman for Creative Scotland said: “We support freedom of expression and artists being able to push the boundaries of radical performance.
“However, the project, Rein, is considerably more explicit in its execution than was indicated in the application received to our Open Fund.
“As such, we are reviewing this award and will be discussing next steps with the applicant and with the other partners in the project.”

The funding allocation was slammed by feminist campaigners as “state-funded porn”.
For Women Scotland said: “At a time when genuine arts projects struggle to find funding, it seems that Scottish Government supported bodies are eager to splash the cash on projects that dehumanise women and promote unhealthy and dangerous relationships.
“The porn and prostitution industry has never been short of cash, we are not sure why their profits should be boosted by unsuspecting Scottish workers.
“If they are making porn on the public purse, who signed off on this?
“The public will be disgusted and will rightly want answers from the Minister in charge.”
Scottish Conservative deputy leader Meghan Gallacher also said:”Given the concerns raised here, Scottish Government ministers must make clear that robust processes were followed before handing over taxpayers’ money for the show.”
In the description of the project, Ms Gasson said: “If you are selected to be in the cast, our intimacy co-ordinators will support you to more clearly identify your detailed needs and boundaries with the sexual aspects of the work.
“This is a pro-sex and pro-sex worker project, so, even if your character does not engage in sex, you will be around those that do.”
The Scottish Government said funding decisions are made independently by the arts body.
