Granada, Dublin, Amador Valley among winners

Baseball

No. 1 Granada 10, Legend-Colorado 1

The Bay Area’s top team used a late surge to pull away from a solid opponent from Colorado to advance to the next round of a tournament in Las Vegas. Granada scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to turn a 2-1 lead into a rout. 

Tyler Kardy was 2 for 4 and drove in a team-high four runs for Granada. Nate Brown and Riley Winchell each had two RBIs apiece, and Parker Warner and A.J Martinez drove in one run each.

Mason Ravera, Logan Hahn and Carlos Hernandez combined for six strikeouts for the Matadors, who improved to 14-0.    

No. 19 Amador Valley 13, Buhach Colony-Atwater 0

Matthew Foley was 2 for 3 with five RBIs as Amador Valley run-ruled Buhach Colony in five innings. Pitchers Tyler Cannon and Gavin House combined to allow just one hit. 

Riley Borges had two RBIs for Amador, and teammate Gage Talbot drove in three. Sophomore Aaron Solomon was 3 for 3 with three runs as Amador Valley improved to 8-7. 

Santa Clara 8, Lynbrook 0

Senior pitcher Jacob Horne was stellar on Thursday night, striking out nine and allowing just one hit in a complete game shutout. In the batter’s box, he had a hit and drove in two runs for Santa Clara, which improved to 8-6 and 6-1 in Peninsula Athletic League El Camino Division play.

Andrew Traffas was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, and Connor Houle had two hits, one being a triple. Jaxon Chao and Zack Gallegos had two hits a apiece for Santa Clara. Dylan White had a hit and stolen base for Lynbrook (5-9, 2-6)

Softball

No. 17 Dublin 1, Gregori-Modesto 0

Kensington Abrew walked Dublin off with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Gaels the victory. It was the first home run of her varsity career, according to stats inputted on MaxPreps. 

On a day when many softball teams in the Bay Area had their games rained out, Dublin was able to win a thriller at a tournament. Senior pitcher Kelly Maggiora was exceptional for Dublin, allowing just two hits across seven frames.
