Gucci Westman’s Secrets For a Sexy-Smudgy NYE Beauty Look

For celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman, holiday beauty is all about looking “chic, effortless, rich, and crisp.” Effortless could also be used to describe her eponymous brand, Westman Atelier, which is loved by Vogue editors and those-in-the-know alike. But just because you’re into easy beauty doesn’t mean you have to totally bunk the age-old tradition of donning something sparkly on your face as 2023 draws to a close.

“I have this obsession with a little bit of sparkle all over the lids,” Westman shares. “But it’s really translucent.”

Here’s how she created the look on model Lakshmi, plus the simple steps for you to recreate it on yourself at home.

Prep the skin

Westman starts with Liquid Super Loaded in Peau de Rosé across face. This can be worn alone or under foundation with the same results—incredibly glowy skin. If you want a bit of coverage, then go in with the Vital Foundation Stick. “I like to use two different foundation tones on the face,” Westman says. “One around the periphery of the face, the other in the t-zone and cheeks so that foundation doesn’t look flat or like a mask. I only use foundation where it’s needed, you never need a full face of foundation, unless you like that look.”

Some shimmer and smudge

First, go in with the Eye Pod in Fête for your hint of shine. From there, it’s time to build out the liner. “I love to go over the kohl pencil with black liquid liner,” Westman says, starting with the Eye Love You Pencil in Khôl Noir, then tracing over it with the Too Faced Better Than Sex Easy Glide Waterproof Eyeliner. “The mix of blacks and textures is richer.” Go in with mascara if that’s your vibe, though Westman adds: “I often skip mascara for evening because it can make things feel a little too done or makeup-y.   It can be cooler to go without, if you feel confident that way.”

A touch of gloss

The finishing touch is a little hint of color on the lips. “A sheer nude balances the eye and you don’t need to worry about touch-ups for parties if you go with a hydrating liquid balm,” she says. “Also 100 percent of proceeds from this lip color go to charity, which is good karma for 2024!”
