Halls Creek Hospital standard may have contributed to death of 11-year-old girl

The State Coroner has found an Indigenous girl who died at Halls Creek Hospital could have been spared hours of pain and may have had a better chance of survival had doctors realised her dire condition sooner — and had the facility been better resourced.

The 11-year-old, who cannot be named due to cultural reasons, was rushed to the emergency department on September 5, 2017, with a sore and swollen tummy, and vomiting — complications of an intestinal obstruction.
