Hamersley fires: Police seeking to identify person responsible for lighting scrub fires near Wanneroo Road

Police are seeking to identify the person responsible for lighting a series of scrub fires in Hamersley last week.

Four fires were lit last Thursday — between 8pm and 8.30pm — along the bike path beside Reid Highway between Erindale and Wanneroo Roads.

A short time later, a fifth fire was lit in bushland on Wanneroo Road in Balcatta near the Water Corp facility.

Fire crews raced to the scene and extinguished the fires before they could impact on homes.

Police say the person was in the vicinity of the fires just before they started.

The person is described as being fair-skinned, with a slim build, balding and wearing dark-coloured pants and a top.

Police believe they can assist with this investigation.
